Clarity Computing is advising its customers to take precautions against the Sasser worm, which has been spreading rapidly in the last twelve hours. This worm propagates itself over the Internet and does not arrive via email.
This worm exploits one of the vulnerabilities described in the email alert we released on April 14th. Customers who have already patched their systems against this vulnerability will not be affected by this worm.
Infected computers will attempt to spread the worm to other machines, and as such we advise customers to immediately disconnect infected PCs from your network and the Internet pending disinfection and patching.
Microsoft have issued a security bulletin detailing the problem and providing patches to protect against the vulnerability exploited by this worm, available at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-011.mspx.
If you require any assistance dealing with this worm, please feel free to get in touch with us.
